New York Summer Streets

If you were thinking of trying out rock climbing, zip lining or the trill of sliding down a giant water slide and can’t seem to pull yourself away from your busy city life, then come down to The Summer Streets –  an ‘annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space — its streets’ – Park Avenue to be precise.

“Every year, Summer Streets opens up nearly seven miles of New York City’s streets on three consecutive Saturdays” providing New Yorkers with fun outdoor activities, aerobics, yoga, arts, craft, even dancing while listening to musical cords of different genre. Oh, do not miss out on the food sampling!  Did I forget to mention that this ‘oasis’ in the city is all free! Yes, car-free and money free.

All other modes of transportation are acceptable, skates, wheel chairs, bikes and if course foot pedaling.  No motorbikes, sorry!

The kids walk away with bags of goodies, projects completed, energies burnt and smiles!  You get to experience a day of fun, healthy living and entertainment, regardless of your age or skill levels there is an activity for all. It is really a great way to see the city safely and on a low budget.  But to get the best of it, be there early- the streets are normally beset by crowds and lines ( over 300,000 people participating) for the popular booths.

When is Summer Streets?

Summer Streets takes place over three consecutive Saturdays every August from 7am to 1pm.
